The Maori honey-eater, or Bellbird

also known by its Māori name korimako / makomako,

is a New Zealand bird that I met by chance in a television documentary. The eyes are red, the beak short and curved. The tongue has brush-like attachments at the end to lick up the nectar.

I found it interesting that the bird has to fight for its life because of domestic cats, weasels, ferrets, rats and food competitors such as wasps. He has suffered habitat loss through European farming methods and is threatened! I wanted to give him a second life in my pictures.

Der Maori Glockenhonigfresser, auch bekannt unter seinen Māori-Namen korimako / makomako, ist ein neuseeländischer Vogel den ich per Zufall in einer Dokumentation im Fernsehen kennengelernt habe. Die Augen sind rot, der Schnabel kurz und gebogen. Die Zunge besitzt am Ende bürstenartige Anhänge zum Auflecken des Nektars.

Ich fand es interessant, dass der Vogel wegen eingeschleppten Hauskatzen, Wiesel, Frettchen, Ratten und Futterkokurrenten wie Wespen um sein Leben kämpfen muss. Durch europäische Landwirtschaftmethoden erlitt er Lebensraumverluste und ist bedroht! Ich wollte ihm ein zweites leben in meinen Bildern schenken.
