SAMBISTA yellow

My mother is a real Brazilian, she loves samba, the beach and the sun. Always proud, always smiling and above all always strong. My father, who is not quite typically Swiss, traveled to many different countries as a young man for business reasons. That's how he met my mother in Spain.

With this series of Brazilian samba dancers, I wanted to bring a part of my heritage on the canvas. Bright colors, fun and a certain lightness. The samba dancers in Brazil work hard on their performance all year round. The samba schools plan, decorate and sew all year round.

But Samba does not only exist once a year at carnival time. Samba, and many other styles of brazilian music, accompanies the people of Brazil all year round. Whether at the street bar, on the beach or at home with the family. Music is part of it.

Meine Mutter ist eine eingefleischte Brasilianerin, sie liebt den Samba, den Strand und die Sonne. Immer stolz, immer lachend und vor allem immer stark. Mein Vater, der nicht ganz typische Schweizer, reiste aus geschäftlichen Gründen schon als junger Mann in viele verschiedene Länder. So lernte er auch meine Mutter in Spanien kennen.

Mit dieser Serie von brasilianischen Sambatänzerinnen wollte ich einen Teil meine Herkunft auf die Leinwand bringen. Leuchtende Farben, Spass und eine gewisse Leichtigkeit. Die Sambatänzerinnen in Brasilien arbeiten das ganze Jahr hart an ihrer Performance. Die Sambaschulen planen, dekorieren und nähen das ganze Jahr. 

Samba existiert aber nicht nur ein mal im Jahr zur Karnevalszeit. Samba, und viele andere Musikstile, begleitet die Menschen in Brasilien das ganze Jahr. Ob an der Strassenbar, am Strand oder zu Hause mit der Familie. Musik gehört dazu.
